  7. I tried to restart NetCharts Server through the Admin Console but I get an error with an empty box?
The Restart NetCharts Server Utility in the Admin Console runs as an applet. If you run the NetCharts Server Admin Console from a browser without required applet support, the restart command will not succeed. In these cases, try using a different browser or accessing from a different machine. If no other systems or browsers are available, NetCharts Server may be restarted using from the Windows Services Control Panel.

As of April 2015, starting with Google Chrome Version 42, Google has added an additional step to configuring NPAPI based plugins like Java, Silverlight, Facebook Video and Unity. These steps must be taken to then use the restart function with Google Chrome
    (from the Oracle documentation https://java.com/en/download/faq/chrome.xml):

Enabling NPAPI in Chrome Version 42 and later
As of Chrome Version 42, an additional configuration step is required to continue using NPAPI plugins.

    In your URL bar, enter:
    chrome://flags/#enable-npapi
    – Click the Enable link for the Enable NPAPI configuration option.
    – Click the Relaunch button that now appears at the bottom of the configuration page.

  9. Can I run different versions of NetCharts Server on the same machine?
It is possible to run multiple versions of NetCharts Server on the same system. Unless additional licenses has been purchased, running multiple instances of NetCharts Server on the same system is only allowed for migration or upgrade purposes. This includes running both versions to verify the migration of content and performance while upgrading to a later release. Once the migration has been completed, the older NetCharts Server instance must be uninstalled. It is required to install the later NetCharts Server instance on a port other than the default 8001 to prevent conflicts during this process if you want to run both simultaneously. Once the upgrade has been confirmed, stop the older NetCharts Server service, update the port in the later NetCharts Server version to the intended port and change the older NetCharts Server to use the Manual service startup mode so that both versions won’t start up using the same port.

  11. When I upgrade to the latest version of NetCharts Server, how can I migrate my old projects and settings?
When you perform the installation of the later version, allow the installer to migrate your projects, JAR files and other settings from the old installation. During the last step of the installation process, you’ll see the option to have the installer migrate your existing content to the new instance (https://visualmining.com/resources/netcharts-server-installation-guide/#importsettings).

NOTE: The one setting that will not be brought over is the port.

  13. After installing NetCharts Server, I can only access it from the local server.
Check the firewall installed on the local server. NetCharts Server runs on port 8001 by default. In the firewall add a configuration to allow access to port 8001 from external systems. If you selected a different port, make sure to enable access through the firewall for that port.
