NetCharts® Server v5.1 Release Notes and New Features
NetCharts Server version 5.1 includes both performance and security updates to the core system and new features expanding the Asynchronous Java and XML (AJAX) support introduced in NetCharts Server v5.0. Additionally, the JVM installed with NetCharts Server has been updated to a 1.5 JVM.
See the appropriate API documentation for each enhancement. Download the NetCharts Server Data Sheet .
The NetCharts Server v5.1 core system changes focus on both performance and security. The highlights of the new features are described below.
Platform Enhancements
- JVM Update
NetCharts Server v5.1 is installed with a 1.5 JVM. This improves performance, compatibility and resolves issues related to the 2007 change in Daylight Savings Time definitions. - New Cache Management Controls
A new control allows NetCharts Server Administrators to quickly clear the chart image cache. The "Clear File Cache", and "Clear Data Cache" controls are available in the Utilities Section of the Administrator's Console. Clearing the file cache removes all chart images in the selected project(s), forcing NCS to redraw charts when next requested. Clearing the data cache clears an in-memory data cache, forcing data all queries to be re-executed when next requested. - TinySVG Image Encoding
NetCharts Server v5.1 can generate chart images in Tiny SVG format, providing improved support for the display of NetCharts Server generated content on mobile devices. - Servlet Security update
The Tomcat default servlet, unused by NetCharts Server, was removed from the distribution to prevent a potential security issue. See http://www.securityfocus.com/bid/5786 for details. - Sybase JDBC Driver update
The built-in JDBC driver for Sybase has been updated to Sybase jConnect for JDBC 6.05.
Asynchronous Java and XML (AJAX) Enhancements
NetCharts Server, in combination with NetCharts Designer v5.1, offers new AJAX based features to allow more immediate user interactivity and support cleaner, more detailed reports.
- Table Pagination
NetCharts Server 5.1 supports the creation of paged HTML tables. Designers now have control over how many lines of text an HTML table will display. Controls can be exposed that allow users to move from page to page within a multi-page HTML table. - Cascading Menu Support
Using JSP code generated by NetCharts Designer 5.1, NetCharts Server 5.1 now supports the creation of dependent, or "cascading" menu controls. A cascading menu is a menu that has its content controlled by selections from other menus. Multiple menus can now be placed on a page, and these menus can automatically update their content based on selections made in other menus. AJAX processing can be enabled to allow individual menus to update dynamically without a full page refresh.
